Do you have to live in catchment if you are looking to join DAO in Year 12? Do they have many new students starting then?

I've just had a look at the website in the sixth form section. It doesn't look as though you have to live in the priority areas for sixth form to me. It says that the PAN for year 12 is 30 with 210 places in year 12 (so sounds as though around 180 stay for sixth form).
The website says approximately 500 students apply for those 30 places (though students can apply to multiple sixth forms as far as I'm aware).
The website looks quite detailed as to admissions requirements etc.

Thank you loobylou, I will have a look and read in detail.

Wow, 500 applying for 30 places!

But don't forget that students look at lots.
I know someone who started at Woodhouse College this year but had offers (which he would have met) from DAO and MHCHS. Another friend's child was offered Woodhouse and Latymer but not DAO (and ended up taking neither). If they are typical then the odds seem to be closer to 3-4 per place if my maths is right.
My dd will be hoping to stay on in the sixth form from next September so is about to start the internal application process.

Thank you, it may well be that the journey is too difficult from where we are but they have an open afternoon soon so we'll go along and have a look.

There is no catchment for the DAO sixth form.

I am sure dd2 would have no problem getting an offer if she was interested.

Tube to Finsbury Park or Highbury and Islington and then ten minutes to Potters Bar.

Definitely go along to the open afternoon. She will probably see some old friends while she is there!

I think she would love it.

As you know the Head of Music from HBS just started as the Head of Music at DAO this term so there would be one teacher she already knows.

There is also a greater range of subjects available. DG

Thank you DG,

I know the Music teacher you mean, she's a great teacher. Dd is very unmusical and didn't have much interest in the subject but this teacher really got the best out of dd and she enjoyed the lessons.

At the moment dd2 is very keen to join her younger sister at WGGS but she wants to look at DAO too. A very popular History teacher from HBS recently left to take up deputy Headship at WGGS so that's also drawing dd in!

I'm not sure how dd would feel going back to co-ed but maybe she would like it.

So you might actually have two dc at the same secondary school for a couple of years!

Certainly would make your life a lot easier.

Is dd3 excited about the prospect? DG
