Does the school have thevrep of only being for 'really clever' girls, so the cohort tends to be more highly self-selecting than the 'opt ins' for the test generally?

I think there's an element of that, probably more of a "pushy parent" area, but also it is just girls - all of the other 3 consortium schools are co-ed so the cohort will include boys.

Got it! Thx so much everyone. So helpful. Jus heard that a work friends daughter passed for all so has done very well. As they live about 5 miles away from both AGSG and UGS she’ll get which ever she puts first

I’d actually assumed one of the attractions was all girls as less distractions. Although overall I think I prefer CoEd. You’ve all given me lots of think about. So hard to decide what to do but will look at tutors

Also, just one last point in answer to your last couple of posts. Although 5 miles would have got a place at AGGS in recent years, I'm always wary of assuming its guaranteed. You never know (for sure) until allocation day. I have an older daughter and when she was preparing for the exams, the rule of thumb was that they only went out to about 5 miles (even though the catchment was officially 8 miles). 2013 was 5.57 miles, 2014 was 5.43 and 2015 was 5.44. Should be OK at 5 miles, but its not certain.

The AGSG has 11 miles some years and the Trafford admission info says 8.5 or similar for last year. UGS was 7.5 I think. Their web site has more useful info though. It also says several hundred have passed this year. But I assume post people put all 4 schools

Yes, the point is that the distance of the last offer varies year on year - so whilst 5 miles is probably close enough, you can't guarantee it. The info in that Trafford publication on the website (8 miles for AGGS and 7.5 miles for UGS) is just the information for offers last year - it doesn't mean either school will offer to the same distance this year.

I think (from info on the school's website and the internet) AGGS pass @ 350 girls each year, but obviously there are far fewer places.

Urmston's own website says "The distance offered at 1stallocation on 1st March 2019 last year was 7.544947 miles" and the Trafford info backs that it, says Category E, 7.54.

Yes really quite big distances. I guess friends living a long way away becomes reality like at the independent schools. Worse case scenario is a best friend 15 miles away! But t means the odds of getting in if my daughter starts with a tutor soon are quite high.
My son might be a different kettle of fish however!
