I have the other book, for vocabulary so would be interested to know what its like. The vocabulary book is nice and light and we do 3-4 pages at a time together. It's a good one to take on holiday or leave in the car for a quick 5 mins.

Hi
It’s very basic book doesn’t help much to someone in year 5 as cem synonyms n antonyms are much difficult than this . I have got this book but my daughter found it very easy . More suitable for kids in year 3 or 4 . In my personal opinion fptp vocabulary book ( blue one ) is the best . edited by moderator. Hope it helps you .
Regards

My DS is in year 4 and we are starting now. So I guess this book should be a good one to start with.

Thank you for your inputs.

We bought this and found it very good for a quick burst in the car eg while on the way to somewhere, the material can be used to play games. I disagree that it's too basic.

Eg use the sorting pages: so guys, do these words mean "very big" or "very small"

Enormous? Microscopic? How about infintesimal?...... etc etc.

It's not a complete resource by itself but I'd recommend it.

+1

We used this book in year 5 so I don't think it's too basic. It isn't a complete resource so we used it with other vocabulary work too, especially synonyms & antonyms. Reading widely helps massively though as it helps with understanding the meaning of words rather than just learning words out of context.

Thank you all for your inputs. This forum is truly amazing :) :) :)

I have bought this book and DS has done the first two tests. My question is did you leave your DC with the book and a dictionary and look for meaning themselves and learn or sat with them and did it word by word.

I am not sure what would work for me at this stage so would like to know what has worked for people who have worked on this book.

Thank you

Hi

We started off going through the book together. We used a combination of a dictionary, google & Mum! I found that until my DD had built up her vocabulary it was a bit sole destroying to leave her with the tasks. Over time as her vocabulary built up, she became more confident and she would do on her own. It also partly depends on the exercise. We did go through the book more than once over our year of 11+ prep.

Good luck.

We used it as a ten minute thing each weekday morning - a couple of pages each time. Some topics are easy, some harder. Some were quick to do, some not so quick. It was good starting point and my DD easily got into the habit of doing it before breakfast.

She would sit with her dictionary and thesaurus - we had the two mini Collins versions. Sometimes a word was in the dictionary and sometimes in the thesaurus. She mostly did it independently and then I checked her answers/we talked about the tricky ones or where there was a pattern like the ir- prefix.
