DS is thinking about his A levels choices and wants to do computer science. His current school offer this thing (British Computer Society approved IT & C Certificate) as an optional extra on top of his other 3 subjects. Is this any good? what would he cover with this? Should we consider applying to other 6th forms that offer a proper computer science A level?
He also wants to do maths, physics and spanish.
thanks for any input, much appreciated.

to answer my own question, here is what the school replied:
The A level computing and the Informatics course (BCS approved) and the EPQ (IT&C) are quite different courses. The A level course is similar to other A level courses in respect of UCAS points. In the past, it has not enjoyed a strong reputation with universities and it is still not a 'facilitating subject' with Russell Group universities, with Maths and Physics being preferred for entry to CompSci courses at university.

so they don't offer the proper A level anymore and I understand why if it's not valued by top universities...
