I have to say it was always a real bugbear of mine that the school expected the children to read certain books - I used to tell them we would read other named books that my children were interested in. With four children, you realise how completely different their taste in books can be. As long as they're age appropriate and a 'quality' read what does it matter? I used to leave loads of books lying around the floor to find out which type each child was drawn towards and then go and buy lots more.
If I sound bossy it's probably because I am.
