I am not suggesting that QE should do a second round for subject format but only for the numbers issue.

How long can they manage to do it in one round?

But QE would still need to do a 1st round, as opposed to only round, for thousands. A second round just adds to the workload.

Subject format is surely the justification for DAO, HBS and Latymer second rounds.

Habs would do well to have a CEM pre test in the same way as St Pauls girls.

They really do not need to do 230 interviews for for 137 places. DG

Perhaps they want to place more emphasis on interview, as many of the consortium schools have done.

Habs didn’t see 230 girls but all the independents interview to find out what interests / hobbies and extra curricular activities they participicate in.

Earningasce - Can you clarify, what do you mean when you say Habs didn’t see 230 girls? I actually thought that was the absolute minimum they saw?

We were told at interview it was 290 But DG said 230 but I don’t think she has a daughter interviewing there

Just to ask them what their hobbies are, etc? They could do that in an online questionnaire and save themselves an awful lot of time and manpower, surely?

It has been said more than once on the forum, the advantage of the indies being able to interview (and ask for references from the primary school pre-selection), whereas the Admissions Code governing state schools forbids this, is that the indies don't have to put up with DC who don't e.g. have exemplary behaviour, just because they meet the lawful, published, admissions criteria. I don't think the sole purpose of the Habs or any other interview is going to be to make a note of who likes ice-skating and who prefers Jane Austen to Maya Angelou, is it?

Agreed.

I have been astonished by how many ten year olds there are who can achieve top academic results but cannot engage in a conversation with adults.

There are some students who can sail into a super selective grammar but cannot make it through an interview with staff at private school. DG

I have heard that those who have been intensively prepped to pass the exam often don’t do as well at interviews, especially when held a couple of weeks after the exam. Might be nonsense...who knows.
