Any thoughts on the Habs offer numbers DG - you always seem to have such wise words!

It was a quiet day at work today so I read the whole thread "RGS Guildford 2019" on Mumsnet education, they seem to believe Heads are informed beforehand. Perhaps it's not done on this side of the river.

It would break all data protection and GDPR laws in Order to do so, so I think it’s extremely unlikely

I'd be really surprised if Habs confirmed their offer numbers and if it was 125... When we went through the the process a couple of years ago, the Head was very forthcoming about the number of exam candidates and the number of interviewees, and stated that they were ideally looking for 125 girls in year 7. She wasn't going to be pushed on offer numbers to achieve that, but confirmed that they honour all offers made.

AFAIK they do let the heads know the day that they send out letters, i.e. the day before we get to hear. I remember with older child the head congratulating us before I'd told her - this is a state primary.
I don't know why they do, but I guess it's because they have to let the private schools know so they can marshal all their support networks and manage children in playground etc. And they couldn't let some schools know and not others.

I’m so surprised that Independent schools can do this. As mentioned above, it must breach many privacy laws as nowhere on the application does it ask for permission to do so.

Habs prep has two classes which usually have 24 girls in each class making a total of 48 which is the same as STAHS.
However this year they have a total of 50 as they ended up with a couple more.
Current Y7 has 131 girls between 5 classes.
So around 26 in each class.
If we assume all the preps in Y6 take the place reserved for them and they have the same places as last year then that is 81 places out of 230 interviews so approx 3 girls for each place.
Sounds like it will be harder to get an offer this year.
We will know on Friday. DG

Hi, when I spoke to the head in January she said they have circa 80 places and they would have to over offer to achieve this. She went on to say this is normal practice and they can accommodate a few extra children if need be. She said not all the juniors would be going through to the seniors as some would change but mostly a few would be waiting for grammar results.

The number securing grammar schools will go down now both the boy and girls prep schools has stopped preparing their students for the 11 plus exams at Habs. This only happened for the first time last year.
This means they now have to go outside the school for the preparation or DIY. DG

We were told they interviewed 290 by the head, not 230.
