I was looking at Urmston GS allocations , and I was v surprised to see how much the allocation circle shrunk down this year ....down to 3.1 miles for 2020 .....smallest distance for years ....maybe ever

Please note the information provided confirming the top 20 score and distances may vary from year to year due to parental choices – see below;

1st allocation as at 1st March 2020

Candidates who achieved a score of 361 or above were in the Top 20
The furthest distance offered was 3.168
1st allocation as at 1st March 2019

Candidates who achieved a score of 361 or above were in the Top 20
The furthest distance offered was 7.544
1st allocation as at 1st March 2018

Candidates who achieved a score of 363 or above were in the Top 20
The furthest distance offered was 4.066 miles
1st allocation as at 1st March 2017

Candidates who achieved a score of 367 or above were in the Top 20
The furthest distance offered was 3.995 miles

ooof! My DS was one mark away from the top 20. Also out of catchment this year, we are 3.6 miles away. We thought he could've got in, but sounds like not. Luckily he chose Stretford as it's closer and walkable.

How did you get this date Beeptoot? Would be interesting to see similar data for Stretford Grammar.

I think it’s a bumper birth rate year this year, so maybe that has shrunk the catchment? I know the local secondary comprehensive school (which my son goes to, having missed SGS by 2 marks in 2018) has a really small catchment this year.

Be interesting to know the results for Sale Grammar too. We are 1.8 miles (1.5 as the crow flies) and got in.

It has shrunk, but I think last year (from the stats) when it shot up to 7+ miles was an anomaly, and the previous years had been 3+ or 4 miles.

Trafmum82 - this link doesn't tell you the distances etc, but it shows how many took the exam and passed (think its another big increase - 2900 took it compared to 2600 or thereabouts last year but with a similar number of passes

This FoI site is worth keeping an eye on too, but there may be a wait before the school can confirm the final admissions list.
