Preparing for the 11+ really seemed to trip a switch in my son who has since become really excited about Maths, having found it quite boring before. He has got in the habit of doing a bit every day and has finished his workbooks and is asking for something a bit meatier. Does anyone have any recommendations? There are some great online links but he prefers to work out of a book.

I looked at the CGP KS3 Maths books on amazon - the first couple of sections seemed to revisit the 11+ material but he'd enjoy the algebra, graphs and geometry stuff. I noticed the study guide book has been updated in 2017 but the practice book is still from 2014 - I'm not sure what difference this makes. Pearson have new KS3 books but the 'look inside' function wasn't working. They won't be in our local book shops to have a peek as we're in Scotland so the shops have the Scottish curriculum - he has one of these Scottish high school books for S1-S3 but there is not much beyond the 11+ to be honest.

If anyone has any recommendations, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

The KS3 curriculum changed in 2014 but PLEASE don't buy any of these! Acceleration is not recommended these days.

It would be much more beneficial to look at NRICH [www.nrich.maths.org] or the Primary Maths Challenge [http://www.primarymathschallenge.org.uk] or even the UKMT Junior Maths challenge [https://www.ukmt.org.uk/individual-competitions/junior-challenge/].

You might even want to look out for Rob Eastaway's books [http://www.robeastaway.com/books] - one of those may appeal?
